Devcon® Wear Guard™ Fine Load 11470

Devcon® Wear Guard™ Fine Load (Part No. 11470) is a high-density, micro-alumina ceramic bead-filled epoxy system designed to protect equipment handling fine particulate matter (less than 1/8" or 3.2 mm). It offers exceptional resistance to abrasion and chemical attack, making it ideal for applications involving dust particulate, slurry pumps, scrubbers, screens, and screw conveyors.

Product Overview

Type : Two-part epoxy system filled with micro-alumina ceramic beads.

 Color : Grey.

Mix Ratio : 2:1 by weight or volume (resin:hardener).

Working Time : Approximately 45 minutes at 25°C.

Functional Cure Time : 16 hours at 25°C for a 5 mm thick section.

Service Temperature : Up to 150°C (300°F) in dry conditions.

 Hardness : 87 Shore D.

 Compressive Strength : 11,000 psi (76 MPa).

Adhesive Tensile Shear Strength : 1,375 psi (9.5 MPa).

 Dielectric Strength : 340 V/mil.

 Cure Shrinkage : 0.001 cm/cm.

Key Features

Abrasion Resistance : Protects against fine particle abrasion in equipment handling particulate smaller than 1/8" (3.2 mm).

Chemical Resistance : Offers outstanding resistance to a wide range of chemicals, including acids, alkalis, and solvents.

Smooth Application : Can be troweled to form a smooth surface, facilitating easy application and reducing turbulence in fluid flow.

High-Temperature Performance : Withstands operating temperatures up to 150°C (300°F) in dry conditions.

Gap Filling : Capable of filling gaps ranging from 0.25" to over 1.5".

Applications

Slurry Pumps : Protects internal surfaces from abrasive wear caused by fine particles.

Scrubbers and Screens : Extends equipment life by resisting chemical and particulate abrasion.

Screw Conveyors : Reduces wear on surfaces transporting fine particulate matter.

Chutes and Hoppers : Provides a durable lining to resist abrasion and chemical attack.

Flanges and Elbows : Shields critical components from erosive and corrosive environments.

Handling & Safety

Surface Preparation:

 * Ensure all surfaces are dry, clean, and roughened.

 * Degrease surfaces using solvents like MEK, Acetone, or IPA.

 * Remove paint, rust, and grime by abrasive blasting or mechanical methods.

 * For aluminum surfaces, remove oxidation before application.

 * Provide a profile on the metal surface by roughening (ideally by grit blasting or grinding).

 * Apply the putty as soon as possible after cleaning to prevent oxidation.

Mixing Instructions:

 * Mix resin and hardener at a 2:1 ratio by weight or volume.

 * Stir thoroughly until a uniform color and consistency are achieved.

Application:

 * Apply at temperatures between 13°C and 32°C (55°F to 90°F).

 * Spread the putty over the prepared surface with a putty knife, pressing firmly to ensure maximum contact and avoid air entrapment.

 * For bridging large gaps or holes, use fiberglass, sheet metal, or wire mesh.

Safety Precautions:

 * Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves and eye protection.

 * Ensure adequate ventilation during application.

 * Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, rinse thoroughly with water.

 * Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for detailed information.
