DOWSIL™ SYLGARD™ 184 Silicone Elastomer is a two-part, transparent silicone encapsulant that cures to a flexible elastomer. It is widely used for protecting electronic components due to its excellent dielectric properties, thermal stability, and ease of processing.
Product Overview
SYLGARD™ 184 is supplied as a two-part liquid component kit, consisting of a base and a curing agent, mixed in a 10:1 ratio by weight or volume. Once mixed, it cures to a flexible elastomer suitable for encapsulating and protecting electronic devices. The material can be cured at room temperature or accelerated with heat, offering versatility in processing.
Key Features
Transparent and Flexible : Cures to a clear, flexible elastomer, allowing visual inspection of encapsulated components.
Thermal Stability : Operational over a temperature range of -45°C to 200°C (-49°F to 392°F), making it suitable for various environments.
Minimal Shrinkage : Exhibits low shrinkage during curing, ensuring dimensional stability.
No Exotherm During Cure : Cures without generating excessive heat, protecting sensitive components.
Excellent Dielectric Properties : Provides reliable electrical insulation, with a dielectric strength of approximately 540 V/mil.
UL Recognized : Classified under UL 94 V-1 and V-0 for flammability, and UL RTI of 130°C (266°F).
Applications
SYLGARD™ 184 is versatile and used in various applications, including:
Encapsulation of Electronic Components : Protects sensitive electronics from moisture, dust, and mechanical stress.
Potting of Power Supplies and Sensors : Provides insulation and environmental protection for power electronics and sensor assemblies.
Solar Module Encapsulation : Used in the encapsulation of crystalline or thin-film solar modules, offering protection against environmental factors.
Adhesive/Encapsulant for Solar Cells : Serves as an adhesive and encapsulant in solar cell applications, ensuring durability and performance.
