3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive DP125
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ DP125 is a gray, two-part, toughened epoxy adhesive. It is known for its high strength, durability, and flexibility, providing excellent structural bonding performance on a variety of substrates. Its unique formulation cures to form a bond line with some elasticity, which helps absorb stress and shock, reducing the risk of failure due to thermal expansion mismatch or dynamic loading. It is supplied in a convenient dual-barrel syringe for precise mixing.
Key Features
High Strength & Toughness: Offers high shear and peel strength combined with excellent flexibility and impact resistance.
Fast Curing: Cures rapidly at room temperature, speeding up production processes.
Versatile Substrates: Bonds a wide range of materials including metals, composites, ceramics, glass, and most plastics.
Excellent Durability: The cured adhesive exhibits good chemical resistance, moisture resistance, and aging performance.
1:1 Mix Ratio: Simplifies dispensing. The dual-barrel syringe with static mixer nozzle ensures precise, waste-free mixing.
Fatigue Resistance: The toughened formula effectively withstands vibration and cyclic loading.
Applications
DP125 is widely used in assembly and repair applications requiring a strong, durable, and somewhat resilient bond, such as:
Transportation: Bonding body panels, truck trailer components, aerospace interior parts.
Electronics & Electrical: Component mounting, potting, and bonding, providing electrical insulation and damping.
General Industrial Manufacturing & Repair: Assembly of metal or composite structural parts, nameplate attachment, equipment housing repair.
Composite Bonding: For bonding fiberglass, carbon fiber, and other composite components.
Packaging Options
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ DP125 is available in several user- and storage-friendly packages:
- 12 mL Dual Syringe: Standard package, includes static mixer nozzles. Ideal for small batches or repair work.
- 50 mL Dual Cartridge: For use with manual or pneumatic dispensing guns. Suitable for medium-volume production lines.
- 400 mL Dual Cartridge: For high-volume production environments.
Handling & Safety
Mixing: Always use the provided static mixer nozzle or ensure the two parts are mixed thoroughly in the precise 1:1 volume ratio until the color is uniform. Incomplete mixing will compromise final properties.
Surface Preparation: For optimal adhesion, surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease, oil, and dust. Abrading and chemical treatment may be necessary for some surfaces like metals.
Curing Conditions: Typical handling strength is achieved in 24 hours at 24°C (75°F). Cure time can be significantly reduced with moderate heat (e.g., 65-95°C / 150-200°F). Full property development takes several days.
Safety Precautions:
- Use with adequate ventilation.
- Wear safety glasses, protective gloves, and consider protective clothing to avoid skin and eye contact.
- Always read and follow all instructions in the product's Safety Data Sheet (SDS/MSDS) and official Technical Data Sheet (TDS) before use.
- Uncured adhesive components may be flammable. Keep away from heat and open flame.
- Dispose of cured material and empty containers properly.
