Loctite 401

Loctite 401 is a general-purpose instant adhesive (cyanoacrylate) from Henkel designed for fast bonding of a wide range of materials. It cures rapidly on contact and forms strong bonds with minimal gap fill.

Key Features

Fast curing – rapid bond formation, often within seconds.

Versatile substrate adhesion – bonds a wide variety of materials.

Low viscosity – good for close-fitting parts and tight joints.

Primerless on many substrates – no surface primer required for most materials.

Low odor – more user-friendly than many industrial adhesives.

Applications

Loctite 401 is widely used where fast adhesion of small components is needed:

Common Uses
  • General assembly work (plastic, metal, rubber parts)
  • Electronic component bonding
  • Fixtures and fittings in consumer products
  • Crafts, models, and repairs

Suitable Materials
  • Metals: steel, aluminum, brass
  • Plastics: ABS, acrylic, nylon (some plastics may need surface treatment)
  • Elastomers: rubber, silicone-tolerant grades
  • Porous materials: wood, paper, leather

Safety & Handling

Below is a general summary based on typical cyanoacrylate adhesive SDS guidance. Always use the official SDS for your specific product code.

Health Hazards
  • Eye and skin irritation: Strong adhesives can bond to skin and eyes quickly.
  • Respiratory irritation: Vapors may irritate if inhaled in poor ventilation.

PPE & Safe Handling
  • Wear gloves to prevent skin bonding.
  • Eye protection (goggles/face shield).
  • Work in well-ventilated areas.
    Avoid prolonged skin contact.

First Aid
  • Skin contact: Soak bonded area with warm, soapy water; do not pull apart forcibly.
  • Eye contact: Rinse with water immediately and seek medical help.
  • Inhalation/ingestion: Seek medical help if symptoms occur.

Storage
  • Keep in a cool, dry place away from moisture.
  • Tightly close cap after use to prolong shelf life.
